Speed checks in Clonard at long last

Posted on Tuesday 11 July 2006

At long last the local Garda traffic corp payed a visit to Clonard on Friday evening, Monday morning and Monday evening. Apparently at one point on Monday morning they had cars queued up beside the community center as on officer nabbed speeders and the other gave tickets. So many speeders in fact that in many cases people weren’t caught because the first Garda had to stop doing the speed check to issue tickets and clear the backlog.
Hopefully they’ll keep it up for a while until Clonard becomes recognised as a speed trap area and the traffic slows down. Including the 04 cement truck I have seen twice enter the village doing 100kph and not a sign of a brake light as he approaches the national school. This same truck was observed two weeks ago with the rear tyres smoking as he swung past a mother trying to get her children into a car seat at school closing time.

I travel from Navan to Athlone everyday, and I feel like I’m doing something wrong trying to stick to the speed limit through Clonard, especially with Bus Eireann buses trying to drive over me, when will this madness stop.
