IDA may use NEC Plant

Posted on Friday 3 March 2006

COMMUNICATIONS Minister Noel Dempsey is to lead an effort to obtain the NEC factory in Ballivor for use by the IDA to attract a new employer to the area, or for use as an enterprise centre for smaller companies.

Speaking after meeting management of the semiconductor company in London last Thursday morning, he said NEC hadn’t completely ruled out this possibility.

“I asked them, as a legacy to the good relations that the company had enjoyed in Ballivor over the years, and in light of all that NEC had contributed to Ballivor and that the area had in turn contributed to NEC, that they make a donation of the premises and grounds to the State as a gesture,” the Trim-based TD said.
