Traffic

To date there have been concerns raised about the level of speeding and overtaking occuring in the village. Although the speed limit has been decreased to 50kph it appears that it is having little effect.

Numerous requests have been made to the council and the NRA (National Roads Authority) to have a pedestrian crossing installed near the school. The consistent buck passing by both the council and the NRA between themseves each blaming the other have resulted in the pedestrian crossing failing to make the agenda.

Given that the majority of pedestrian fatalities occur in the elderly and young and that St. Finians National school is adjacent to one of the busiest roads in Ireland one wonders how soon some unfortunate family will have to resort to taking a civil action against both the NRA and the council. In the mean time we can only hope that the new and improved Garda Traffic Core will spend a few minutes each month checking on speeds in the village.

How fast do you need to be going to do this?

The mother of a young baby was driving the Peugeot. She was shocked when she thought of what could have happened if she was driving the other car and her baby was strapped into a rear seat!
